This bench does two jobs on a patio: seating for two and dry storage underneath. Horizontal cedar slats with small gaps let air move through, so cushions stay fresh. The slatted floor drains, and the lid rests on three battens so it never sags.

It is built entirely from 2x2s, 1x4s and 1x6s with screws and glue. No special joinery and no table saw needed.
