This planter is built like a log cabin: square courses of flat 2x4s stacked one on top of the next. The trick is that every course is turned 6° from the one below, so by the top it has made almost a quarter turn and the whole tower twists. It looks like it came from a design shop, but it is a pile of identical boards.

Each course is a pinwheel of four 16-1/2" pieces, and the pinwheel flips direction every other course so no joint sits over another, just like staggered bricks. The round opening inside stays a full 13" wide from top to bottom, so a 12" nursery pot or a fabric grow bag drops straight in.
