The hen house is a 4 x 3 ft box raised 30" off the ground, so the space underneath becomes a sheltered, predator-proof run and nobody has to stoop to collect eggs. Hens climb up through a floor hatch on a cleated ramp. The three-hole nest box hangs off the side with its own lid, so you can gather eggs from outside without opening the coop.
The frame is pressure-treated 4x4 legs with a 2x4 floor frame, sheathed in exterior plywood siding. The shed roof slopes toward the front, where a drip edge sheds rain past the door, and the triangles left under it on each side become screened vents that keep the coop dry in winter and cool in summer. A 24" overlay door opens the whole front for mucking out.
